Sexual Assault – Police Appeal for Witnesses

police vestSurrey Police is appealing for witnesses following a serious sexual assault in Guildford.

The incident happened at about 10.30pm on Monday (June 29) in the alleyway which runs behind the Sea Cadets Building and Guildford Cricket Club between Woodbridge Road and Woodbridge Meadows.

The victim, a woman in her early 20s, was approached from behind and sexually assaulted by a man.

The man is described as black, in his early twenties, with black curly hair, 5ft 5 inches tall, of slight build and was wearing large headphones.

Officers and a dog unit were quickly at the scene and officers continue to have a presence in the area following the incident.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Nick Ring said: “This was a distressing incident for the victim who is being supported by specially-trained officers.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are taking this incident extremely seriously and are committed to finding who is responsible.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen the man described either before or after the incident to get in touch with us immediately. Also, if you saw anybody behaving suspiciously in the area please get in touch as it could be vital to our investigation.”
