Schools across the borough of Guildford schools are being asked to get involved in this year’s South and South East in Bloom.

Bloom

Sow the seeds of a life-long love for gardening.

Guildford Borough Council would like to see even more local entries this year to help brighten up the borough.

Green-fingered community groups can also dig in to improve their local environment with the Royal Horticultural Society’s It’s Your Neighbourhood category.

Cllr Terence Patrick, lead councillor responsible for parks and countryside said: “It’s always great to see our younger residents getting involved in making our borough a more beautiful place to be.

“We’d like to see community groups build on last year’s success in the It’s Your Neighbourhood category too. Categories are free to enter and you can sign up online, so don’t miss out!”

Blooming Schools is free to enter and encourages schools, teachers and young people to get into gardening and better understand their environment. The project can be linked to school topics including sustainability and water conservation.

The Royal Horticultural Society’s It’s Your Neighbourhood campaign asks local communities to get involved in making their neighbourhood a cleaner, greener place to live. In 2014, the Snakey Lane Community Wildlife Group won an outstanding award for their work to improve the site in Ash.

The closing date for all entries is 21 February, 21.
