Guildford’s own musical talent Bianca Bazin is through to the regional finals of the Open Mic UK singing competition.

At just 23 years old Bianca, also popularly known as Bee, managed to sufficiently impress the judges with her indie-pop musical style and has guaranteed herself a place in the live performances of the competition.

This epic battle of the regional finals will commence on October 26 at Dingwalls in Camden. Winning a place at the regionals would lead Bianca into the national grand final stage of Open Mic UK.

With the chance to win a total prize of £5000, this would be a dream-come true for any young musical aspirant.

Having been exposed to singing and dancing at the Italia Conti arts school in Guildford, Bianca is no stranger to live performances and relishes the prospect of playing to a wider audience.

Currently living in Shamley Green, Bianca plays the piano and is self-taught on guitar and ukulele using all of these in her music writing and performing. Demonstrating a strong love for music, Bianca said: “I’ve always thought that music gives people a way in which to either understand or escape life. For me it helps me understand it, so I write about real things that I think and feel in a way that I hope other people will too.

“I wish for people to enjoy my music as much as I love writing it and for it to affect them in whatever small way, even it just makes them smile. I very much think of my music as an extension of myself – something to express my feelings, ideas, thoughts and emotions.”

Apart from her love for music, Bianca also has a few other interesting guilty pleasures, number one being shopping. Her favourite shopping destinations include TK Maxx and House of Fraser.

She can also be found frequenting, Glutton & Glee, a coffee shop in Tunsgate, while the evenings may find Bianca at Tickled Ivory, Fahrenheit 55 and Five & Lime.

Although ecstatic at the fact that she is pursuing her dream, Bianca does acknowledge that the struggle between maintaining jobs while trying to launch a music career can get to the best of people. However, while it is a tricky balancing act, Bianca is ‘determined’ to succeed.

Supporting this love for music, the Open Mic UK helps upcoming musicians gain a foothold in an incredibly challenging industry. Travelling throughout the country every year, the competition searches for the undiscovered singers, songwriters, rappers and vocalists, who deserve to be heard.

Covering various genres of music and performing to either covers or their own original material, these talented individuals have the rare chance to showcase their music to Future Music, who have been responsible for bringing about this competition.

Future Music has formerly been instrumental in discovering artists such as Atlantic Record’s Jacob Banks, Warner Music’s Birdy, Sony Music’s Jaymi Hensley from Union J and Jahmene Douglas, Luke Friend and Columbia Record’s Lucy Spraggan.

Over the years the competition and Future Music have discovered some of the best new talent and propelled them to the big stage, working closely with Sony, Universal, Warner and Syco.

Speaking about his excitement for the Open Mic UK, Events co-ordinator and head of future music, Chris Grayston, said: “Every year that we hold this competition the bar is raised and the quality gets higher and higher. We’re really looking forward to experiencing the raw talent from across the country.”
