Student Attacked Crossing Bridge Suffers Facial Injury

A young man received a serious facial injury as a result of a violent assault in Guildford in the early hours of Tuesday morning (February 4).

Feature Surrey police badge 3The incident happened at around 3.35am when the man, a student, was crossing the footbridge from Bedford Road leading from the Odeon cinema towards the railway station.

He was in the company of a female friend, when an altercation occurred with a small group of men. As a result, the student suffered a serious cut across his left cheek.

He was taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the assault to contact officers as soon as possible.

Detective Constable Jim Strugnell said: “I am urging anyone who knows anything about this vicious incident to call Surrey Police with details. It is very early in the investigation and we are trying to piece together exactly what has happened. You may have a crucial snippet of information which could help us find those responsible and bring them to justice. Surrey Police will not tolerate this type of extreme violence in our town centres.”
