There was plenty of sunshine on Saturday (July 12) that helped to make Bob and Sheila Willis’ fundraising vintage garden party a great success.
Held in their lovely garden in Fairlands, people came from far and wide to admire the series of gardens within a garden, while enjoying tea and cakes and helping to raise £842 for Cancer Research.
They decided to open their garden for the first time to raise funds for Cancer Research after a relative of theirs died of cancer last year aged 51.
They have been working hard in their garden just recently making it look its very best, tending summer bedding growing alongside a wide variety of plants in the herbaceous borders and with climbing roses tumbling over arches and trellis. The recent heavy downpours have made their work even more demanding, with some plants coming off the worse for wear.
But on the day everything looked superb beside the manicured lawns and with lots of items dotted around the garden giving it all a vintage feel.
There was a trail in which visitors had to spot ‘hidden’ items. This allowed people to find their way along winding pathways to all the ‘secret’ corners.
Tea and cakes were served all day plus there was a raffle and a book sale.
A number of friends and relatives helped Bob and Sheila on the day, making and serving the refreshments or washing up the china cups and saucers.
