Blue Moon over Guildford – John Schluter

Last night’s (Jan 31-Feb 1, 2018) “Super blue Moon” was clearly visible in Guildford last night as can be seen in the photo above, taken by John Schluter.

John captured the image from his viewing point on St Catherine’s Hill, on the southern edge of the town. The Moon is seen rising over The Chantries to the east of St Catherine’s.

A “blue moon” occurs when there are two full moons in one month and a so-called “super moon” when the moon is closer than usual to Earth making it appear 7% bigger. In some parts of the world, the US and Eastern Europe, it was also a “blood moon”. This is when the moon is in the Earth’s shadow giving the moon a reddish appearance.

Bibhas Neogi sent in this lunar close up he took in Farncombe.

Is this a good omen of future changes in Guildford?
