It’s Super, Smashing, Great For Mystery Picture Prize Hunters

The Guildford Dragon NEWS has bowed to the persistence of two regular readers of our weekly Where Is This? column and awarded them a prize, not perhaps quite what they had in mind, in response to their correct replies.

Doug and Bill Stanniforth overjoyed to finally receive a prize for their regular correct replies to our Where Is This? column.

Doug and Bill Stanniforth are overjoyed to finally receive a prize for their regular correct replies to our Where Is This? column.

We have presented brothers Bill and Doug Stanniforth of Pedal Pushers cycle shop in Stoke Road with something along the lines of the speedboat they have been demanding, week in and week out, akin to the same generous prize that was regularly offered in the popular 1980s TV quiz show Bullseye, hosted by Jim Bowen, whose catchphrase was: “Super, smashing, great!”

Unfortunately, our supplier had sold out of speedboats, (perhaps it was locals preparing for a flood?) so we went for second best and presented Bill and Doug with a subscription for one issue only of the popular glossy magazine Powerboat & RIB, which, according to its publishers, is “packed with beautiful images with informative and exciting content”.

We are confident our plucky prize winners will get hours of enjoyment drooling over lots of colour photos of speedboats riding the waves in exotic locations around the globe.

We called into their shop today (Monday, December 23) surprising them with their prize that also included some home-made shortbread – ideal for the festive season.

For once, these lucky winners were speechless! However, Doug composed himself and in a serious tone said: “There are more worthy winners than us.” [Yeah, tell us something we don’t know! Ed]

Well done Doug and Bill. With the latest weather I think everyone will be after a boat of some description. Enjoy the pictures in your book.

Speedboats are now half price in the winter sales down here at Eastbourne Sovereign Harbour.

If there is any shortbread left can you send some for me and my butler? Thank you.

The Paddle Pushers should be able to get to Eastbourne without touching land at the moment and take advantage of the boat sales. Then they can use their purchase to come straight back to Guildford.

Our shortbread for your butler? Please! The Dragon is strictly ‘Upstairs.’ Okay mate! Ed
