Surrey Police is reorganising to a two division structure to strengthen modernisation and align with Local Government Reorganisation (LGR).
Following a detailed review of its “Target Operating Model” the constabulary began operating across two divisions on Sunday, May 10 .
The move from three to two divisions closely aligns with the Government’s plans for devolution and Surrey’s proposed structure as part of local government reorganisation, which will see the configuration of two new unitary authorities of East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council in April 2027.
A police spokesperson said: “Implementing our divisional restructure ahead of Local Government Reorganisation gives us an increased ability to influence and drive future partnership arrangements, all whilst maintaining the quality and reliability of our services.
“Other internal changes we have already made, ensure that we have the correct capacity and capability to meet the needs of the public, especially in critical times. Internally, the Force will adapt to the divisional changes but for residents, the service they receive will not change or be impacted by this.”
Deputy Chief Constable Mark McEwan said: “I am confident that the changes introduced will deliver benefits, not only for our partnership working, but also sustain our ability to respond to modern day policing demands.
“Neighbourhood policing teams will remain in place, contact methods into the Force remain the same, and residents will continue to see officers and PCSOs serving their local areas as normal. By making these necessary changes now, we are ensuring we are at the forefront of change and in the best possible position for the future.”
