Two stunningly good teenage brass players are among the line-up of talented young solosists performing with Guildford Symphony Orchestra at the County School on Sunday, February 17.

Guildford Symphony OrchestraChris Brewster, alias Mr Tuba, reached the second round of the BBC Young Musician of the Year and he was given a Young Person’s Outstanding Achievement Award by the Mayor of Woking. Matilda Lloyd, aged 17, won the Junior Guildhall Trumpet Scholarship and both she and Chris performed on the musical barges for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant.

Cosima Soulez Larivière and Qian Ho, both 17, are already accomplished violin soloists, training at the Yehudi Menuhin School and flautist Thomas Sargéaunt, who plays with Surrey Youth Orchestra, has just won Goldsmith College’s concerto competition.

The Una Clark Young Artists’ Concert is an annual event organised by the GSO to showcase young stars of tomorrow, and the virtuosity of these musicians who are at the very start of their professional careers is breath-taking.  Hear them tackle demanding works by Jacob, Hummel, Mendelssohn, Khatchaturian and Vivaldi under the baton of GSO conductor Darrell Davison.

The concert is at 3pm in the hall at Guildford County School in Farnham Road.

Tickets, £10 adults, £8 seniors, £5 children/students/ES40s, are available from our box office 01483 415847 or via the website www.g-s-o.org.uk or Guildford Tourist Information Centre on 01483 444333.
