PCSOs gathered at the cathedral refectory for their awards presentation to mark the ten year anniversary of their introduction

It is ten years since Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) were introduced in Surrey and Surrey Police held a special event at Guildford Cathedral to mark the anniversary.

The celebration at the cathedral refectory was attended by 21 PCSOs who were among the recipients of 16 long service awards honouring ten years of continuous service and eleven citations for outstanding achievement.

The Chief Constable Lynne Owens opened the ceremony and praised the work of the PCSOs who have become an integral part of Surrey Police.

She said: “The role of a Police Community Support Officer has evolved in the past ten years to become a well recognised, reliable and essential part of the Surrey Police family. It is with immense pride that I am able to mark this tenth birthday and to note that 16 of our original intake of 100 PCSOs are still working in the role, while many others are now police officers.”

Assistant Chief Constable Jerry Kirkby, who is the national ACPO lead for PCSOs as well as having responsibility for operational policing locally, addressed the staff and partners who were present at the event, before the Chief Constable made the presentations. The following Guildford PCSOs received awards.

Long Service Awards: Jon Perry; Christina Moyes; Linda Cleary

Outstanding Achievement Award: Mark Hennessey
