Guildford’s main Tesco store is offering space in front of the building free of charge for community groups and charities who wish to promote their activities.

The store’s community champion Sue Keeley wants to hear from local groups and societies to see whether they would be interested in using a number of car parking spaces as well as the covered trolley park area adjacent at specific times to set up a stand or table.

Sue hopes that such groups will be keen to use the area, at times to be arranged, as the passing trade of shoppers going in and out of the store is a sure fire way for them to tell people what they do.

If the idea is taken up, Tesco will provide screening to cordon off the area. Sue says it will be an ideal location at the store in Ashenden Road. Groups can promote what they do, hand out leaflets, put up banners and so on, and encourage people to get involved.

The Park Barn & Westborough Community Association were very grateful to Tesco and Sue Keely in particular when they allowed us to give out information about the proposal for a new railway station at Park Barn. We met loads of people and many of them didn’t know about the possibility despite the fact that they live locally.

The Tesco store is a great help to the local community. This is a super idea Sue, please count us, the British Heart Foundation Guildford branch, as being a user.

All local groups needs help and this will be a wonderful way of helping us all to meet the public.
