An opportunity theft of thousands of pounds’ worth of jewellery has been reported to Surrey Police who are appealing for witnesses.
The incident occurred at the Loseley Park Antiques Fair on Sunday (November 20). The victim attended the event and set up his stall in a marquee, to sell second-hand jewellery.
When it came to packing away, he planned to make several trips to his car as the jewellery was too heavy to carry in one go. Having placed some of the jewellery in plastic bags behind his stall table he walked the short distance to the car with the first batch of jewellery. When he returned, the remaining bags were gone.
The trader did not see the jewellery being taken, but other stallholders report witnessing a short man with dark hair place the plastic bags into a rucksack and leave the marquee.
PC Marshall, who is investigating the case, said: “We’re determined to do everything we can to find this thief who brazenly stole a significant amount of jewellery from a very public place.
“We are releasing images of some of the stolen items in case anyone has been offered jewellery for sale in the past week and recognises them. A large number of items were taken and if you are unsure about anything you’ve seen for sale, please get in touch.
“We want to speak with anyone who was at the antiques fair and witnessed anything suspicious, particularly if you were in the car park at around 5pm and may have dashcam footage of the suspect leaving the scene.”
A police spokesperson added: “If you have any information which may help our investigation, please contact us quoting PR/45220125864 via:
“If you do not wish to leave your name, please call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
