A police pursuit began at 1.14am this morning (20 July) in Pirbright after officers spotted a suspicious looking 4×4 towing a trailer.
Police said the vehicle, a Volvo XC90, immediately made off, driving dangerously at excess speed while attempting to dazzle the pursuing officers with high-intensity torches.
A pursuit was authorised and the suspect vehicle was followed as it entered Merrist Wood College on Cobbett Hill Road and continued cross-country and through a golf course.
Undeterred, the Roads Policing Unit was assisted by armed response, the neighbourhood policing team and a police dog unit. A drone and the police helicopter were also used to locate the suspects until the vehicle, trailer and quad bike were all recovered.
Sergeant Gary Lefort, of the Operational Roads Policing Team, said: “This was an excellent example of collaboration demonstrated by the divisional, force and regional teams.”
Three men aged 29, 28 and 26 were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, failing to stop for police and criminal damage. This morning they remained in custody.
