Bus fans enjoyed a ‘transportfest’ at Brooklands Museum featuring Leyland vehicles focusing on the last days of them operating in London.

The event on Sunday, October 21, was hosted by The London Bus Museum that is based at Brooklands.

Pre-war London Transport Greenline buses.

Normally London Transport built its own buses, but during the Second World War and just after there was a distinct shortage of vehicles so it hired some which included those made by Leyland.

Then in 1958 there was a London bus strike, and again buses and coaches including Leyland were imported from the provinces.

Among a range of buses being displayed were three from Guildford’s local bus and coach firm, Safeguard.

A horse-drawn bus gave rides throughout the day. Everyone appeared to enjoy the event and the sunshine!

The next big event at Brooklands Museum, Military Vehicles Day, will be on Sunday, November 18, and will include the Test Hill and Living History Group.
