Although the police investigation into the man’s death is still in the early stages, it is believed his injuries are consistent with being involved in a road traffic collision.

A police statement said: “A thorough search of the area was conducted but the vehicle has not yet been traced. Officers believe the vehicle will have sustained significant damage and possibly will have had traces of blood on it.

“Anyone who has seen a vehicle which may connect to this incident, who has their suspicions around someone they know who could be involved in this incident or who was in this area and possibly saw the events surrounding the collision is urged to contact Surrey Police as a matter of urgency quoting reference P16188470.”

I really hope that they pay attention now and put a speed camera in place.

As residents of St Catherine’s, it is particularly worrying with two young children. We are always concerned when walking either into Guildford town or towards Ferry Lane to the river.

Very sad for this young man who died alone. We can only hope that he did not suffer.

Shame on the coward who killed him.

The police do suspect that this was a hit and run accident but the facts have not been established. Ed
