Vicious Attack on Ripley High Street – Police Appeal for Witnesses

A 34-year-old man was viciously attacked in Ripley as he walked home from a night out with a friend.

The incident is reported to have taken place around 12.30am on Saturday 26 August, near to the junction of Ripley High Street and Newark Lane.

According to a police press release, the victim was assaulted by the driver of a white transit van, which had deliberately slowed as it passed by. When the van stopped the driver ran over and violently attacked the man.

The van was then seen to drive off towards the M25 junction 10, and is described as a plain white Transit Connect type van.

The driver is described as being white, aged in his late 20’s, with short wavy brown hair, slim build and around 6ft tall.

Detective Constable Richard Pegden, said: “I am urging anybody who witnessed or heard anything last Saturday morning, around the Ripley High Street area to contact us.

“This was a seemingly unprovoked attack, with the victim receiving immediate hospital treatment for head and facial injuries. Although his injuries are thought to be non-life-threatening, he is in urgent need of surgery.

“Any information you have could help us establish the events that morning.”
