Vulcan’s Farewell Flight Passes Close To Guildford

On its farewell tour over the south of England and Wales, the iconic Vulcan HX558 bomber flew close to Guildford on Sunday afternoon, October 11.

The aircraft flew over Dunsfold on a circular tour and could then be seen flying low over the Hog’s Back (A331) at 2.21pm.

The car park by the café on the Hog’s Back was full of plane spotters and where reader Mike Bennett took these photographs.

Avro Vulcan aircraft were operated by the Royal Air Force from 1956 until 1984 and are acknowledged to have been the backbone of the UK’s airborne nuclear deterrent during much of the Cold War.

This aircraft is the world’s last flying Vulcan bomber and will soon be grounded after engineering backers pulled their support due to safety fears.
