Five water mains are currently leaking in Guildford, flooding busy roads.

There’s a leak with plenty of surface water where Park Street extends towards its junction with Farnham Road on the town’s gyratory system. Another can be found in Walnut Tree Close, near the sharp bend not far from the Bishops Nissan motor showroom.

A short distance further along Walnut Tree Close can be found another – close to the Royal Mail sorting office in Woodbridge Meadows.

In Midleton Industrial Estate Road, where it joins Midleton Road, near Fox’s car repairers and service firm, is another. This has been leaking for several weeks.

The fifth is in Old Palace Road, not far from the junction with Guildford Park Road, and again is believed to have been leaking for several weeks.

One resident who lives near Old Palace Road said: “Apparently a 25in main has burst and Thames Water is waiting permission from the Highway Authority to dig up the road.”

A spokesperson for Thames Water commented today (Friday, 29th March): “Ideally we would fix all leaks immediately, but some require extra planning. Because of the busy nature of Old Palace Road, we will need to work overnight and put traffic lights in place so we can carry out repairs safely.

“We aim to fix this leak as soon as possible and are sorry for the delay.”

The other leaks have been spotted since our call to Thames Water.

No wonder the water rate is so high.

Not a single contingency plan for when a main bursts on a busy road? Seems a little odd.
