Police were called to Guildford Magistrates Court yesterday (November 22, 2017) after a fight broke out in the main waiting room.

Around 30 members of the public were present at around 11.30am when the incident occurred in which a woman was injured and required medical attention.

According to one witness a woman tried to prevent a younger man, believed to be her son, from attacking another man by standing between them but she was pushed out of the way by the attacker who twice shouted: “You f****** prick” at his intended target, standing at the far end of the room.

The witness told The Guildford Dragon NEWS: “It’s time this sort of behaviour was stopped. That was the most serious premeditated assault I’ve ever seen. He literally launched himself into a group of people with with fists flying.”

Security guards were quick to respond to the fracas as the altercation had been seen on their CCTV.

The subject of the attack is believed to have made a speedy departure down the stairs while an off-duty West Sussex police officer, a witness in another case, calmed the situation, but in the melee the woman had been injured and ended up on the floor.

Police and medics were called to the second floor area where treatment was provided. An ambulance was later called and the injured party surrounded by screens.

Today a police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Guildford Magistrates Court yesterday… after reports of an assault.

“Three men were detained and arrested on suspicion of affray and taken to Guildford Police Station. The three men have since been released under investigation.”

I can remember the days when there would have been police actually at court who would have dealt with that!
