Residents of the parish of Worplesdon gathered at its war memorial in Jacobs Well for a service of remembrance and the two-minute silence on Tuesday (November 11).

At the war memorial in Jacobs Well, from left: Worplesdon parish chairman Dr Paul Cragg, parish assistant Ann McShee, Cllr Bob McShee and parish clerk Gaynor White.
Parish clerk Gaynor White said: “I’m pleased to say that we had a high turnout at our Armistice Day event. About 40 people attended.
“One lady and her husband attended as their son is currently serving in the armed forces. A little white Westie decided to accompany piper Kenneth Thomson by howling during the first lament!”
The memorial, on the corner of Clay Lane and Queenhythe Road, commemorates the crash of US Army Air Force aircraft ‘Lilly Bell II’ on October 25, 1944.
