Guildford City’s manager, Carl Taylor, is aiming for promotion this season, and the season starts imminently. Last season Carl’s aim was for a mid-table finish which was achieved so City fans will hope that his ambition to be involved in promotion play-offs can be realised.
And there is no time to waste. We might have not even reached the end of July but City opens the Combined Counties League Premier Division South programme with their first match at 7.45 pm on Friday (July 25th) against Epsom and Ewell.
As usual, because of the unavailability of their home ground at The Spectrum, during the summer, the early fixtures will be played away.
Dragon editor and Guildford City supporter Martin Giles caught up with Carl Taylor at a pre-season friendly match against Hilltop (from the Premier Division North) on Saturday July 19 for a look forward to the new season. Please see the interview below…
Fans might be sorry to hear of some of the close season player departures including top-scorer Manny Acheampong and stalwart left back Benji Gambrah but Taylor is confident that the new signings will more than make up.
Players to have left the club in the close season: Manny Acheampong, Reece Robins, Sam Sesay, Benji Gambrah, Isaac Collins, Dominic Vakulya, Qasim Khan
Players to have joined: Sam Harper, Frank Boamah, Junior Da Cruz, Maddx Holloway, Ben Matthews, James Orton, Marvin Wood, Charlie Robertson
