Letter: Bus Lanes Enforcement, We Would Like To Use Money Raised Here To Be Spent Here

Published on: 19 Dec, 2019

From Ruth Brothwell

R4GV borough councillor for Worplesdon

Readers might like to know that many councillors who attended the Guildford Borough Council and Surrey County Council Joint Committee on December 11 didn’t much like the idea either, when it came to giving all the money to Surrey County Council.

Anyone watching the webcast will see that there was quite a disagreement.

It is worrying that so many people disregard bus lanes and this gives the onus to politicians to start a fining campaign to prevent this. Guildford, though, would like to feel that we might benefit in some way and use the monies received to assist those users of our roads to good effect.

It is rather surprising that taxis rarely use the bus lanes even though they are entitled to do so. If they did. taxis would get through more quickly. That would also free up the outside lanes for other traffic.

The bus lane at the entrance of the Friary has a clear purpose. I have seen so many drivers disregard it. However, the entrance to the lane at the bottom of York Road is tricky for people who don’t live in Guildford.
