Gordon Bridger

From: Diane Pollock

daughter of the late hon Alderman Gordon Bridger

On behalf of Jean Bridger and the family, I would like to thank The Dragon and your readers for all the wonderfully kind tributes and letters following the death of my father Gordon.

These warm comments have been so comforting and appreciated during a very difficult time. Gordon so loved Guildford, it ran through him like a stick of rock.

As his nephew Alex observed, it offered him a safe haven after leaving a politically unstable Argentina as a young man. It was something for which he was very grateful and in exchange he was dedicated to pay back the town that offered his family security and happiness for many years.

Gordon brought the same level of energy and enthusiasm to his personal and social life as his professional and civic life. He loved nothing more than organising a party or holiday with family and friends, and being relied on to be the life and soul. His curiosity and warmth extended to lifelong friends and beloved family across the world.

He was especially fond of the close relationships with his nephews and nieces far away, with whom he thoroughly enjoyed lively, good-natured internet debates on subjects ranging from science, climate change to politics.

He was tremendous company, curious, impatient and unorthodox, there was never a dull moment in the Bridger house. We look back on his life and see it as truly well-lived and will miss him immensely.

We would like to wish everyone a happy and safe festive period at this very challenging time. There will be a private funeral service at Holy Trinity on December 23. A memorial service will be held next year.
