Letter: Gordon’s Debates Were Lively But Heartfelt And With Humour

Gordon Bridger

From: Pauline Searle

Lib Dem borough councillor for Stoughton and former Mayor of Guildford

In response to: Heartfelt Tribute to Quarter of a Century of Selfless Service

I would personally like to express my sad thoughts at hearing the news of Gordon Bridger’s death.

I was lucky to serve with Gordon for eight years when he was a borough councillor. Any debates in which he took part in were often lively but always sincere and heartfelt, with an added touch of humour.

This continued even after he gave up being a councillor, his passion and interest in Guildford never stopped.

In July 2009 when I was Mayor, Guildford held a Freedom Parade for 1st Battalion, Princess of Wales Royal Regiment, Gordon had a friend from Argentina visiting who, with Gordon’s help, made a CD of the event that showcased Guildford at its very best.

That even included a Song for Guildford. Gordon gave me a copy and it is among my most treasured processions.

A thoughtful, kind man who will be sadly missed, especially by his family.
