Letter: Guildford Needs a Town Council Before Any Switch to a Unitary Authority

Letter from Tim Oliver re Unitary Authority

From Bill Stokoe

Chairman of the Guildford Vision Group

The preemptive action by SCC’s council leader is another good reason for Guildford to have a Town Council established ahead of a switch to a unitary authority.

At the moment, without parish council-type representation enjoyed by villages, the town’s residents could find themselves even more disenfranchised and without a voice.

They did, and still do have, the Neighbourhood Plan route which can lead to “Parish” status. With the expertise in the Guildford Vision Group I am still at a loss why they rejected the route back in 2011.
