Hon Alderman Bernard Parke

From Graham Collyer

In response to: Hon Alderman Bernard Parke Dies – MP Pays Tribute

I am so sorry to hear the news of Bernard’s death, and my wife Ann and I join in asking to be remembered to his family.

It is almost two decades since I stepped down as editor of the Surrey Advertiser, but I can still recall the regular contact I had with Bernard during my 15 years in the editor’s chair – sometimes a wee bit bumpy but that was the nature of the business.

Away from the hurly-burly of the newsroom, where he was a frequent visitor, we were fellow Rotarians and, with my colleague David Rose, we researched local history, which led to several publications.

Bernard was a passionate Guildfordian who wore his council and aldermanic robes with pride. The town and borough have lost a great friend.
