In response to: Local Democracy Is Being Eviscerated

Any idea that money will be saved is pie in the sky. Staffing is unlikely to diminish, and if it does the top senior officers will no doubt go with a huge golden handshake, or they’ll have their jobs “re-designated” but on at least the same salaries.

Then the “branding” of the new authority – new logo, new letterheads, new computer systems (as no doubt a number of the old boroughs will not have installed the same systems), all the vehicles rebranded and no doubt countless other matters that will cost the council tax payer.

Then there’s the over £4 billion pounds of combined debt on day one of the new West Surrey authority (funny that it starts on April 1st next year, but this is no April fools joke).

It will be a sad day for the local taxpayers and local democracy.
