Letter: It’s a Fair Question

From George Potter

Guildford Liberal Democrats Committee Member

In response to a comment on Lord Adonis to Speak in Guildford on Brexit While Local Leavers Report on Their Westminster Demo from Stuart Barnes.

Mr Barnes asks a somewhat fair question, “Has Lord Adonis ever won an election to anything?”

The answer is yes, he was elected multiple times as a local councillor.

However, given how much Mr Barnes pontificates on Brexit himself, and especially given that Guildford is a Remain area and that he himself is a former UKIP politician, perhaps he’d care to let me know whether he’s ever actually won an election to anything himself?

The Guildford Dragon put George Potter’s assertion to Stuart Barnes who responded:

“That is absolute rubbish. I have never even been a member of UKIP. I have never stood for any political election or party. It is the sort of complete b*****ks that it to be expected from the treacherous Liberals.

“This Brexit situation is getting quite serious all round. I am afraid that there is going to be unrest if some in the Conservative party continue their treachery.”

Given George Potter’s past criticism of those who switch parties, it’s perhaps surprising that he should support this man. Adonis’s career as a councillor was with the Social Democratic Party and later the Liberal Democrats before switching to Labour and being given the title which enabled him to serve as an unelected Labour stooge, sorry, minister.

His greatest achievement seems to be the widely detested HS2 project on whose board he now serves.
