In response to: ‘You Don’t Defend Democracy by Trashing Democracy’
To listen to the Lib Dem and Labour hysteria regarding the prorogation of Parliament one might imagine that Oliver Cromwell had just ordered the New Model Army to purge the Palace of Westminster.
Cromwell finally lost patience with the Rump Parliament and dissolved it with the words: “You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately… Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!”
Is Boris Johnson an Oliver Cromwell? Should we put on our liberty caps (blue for EU, as worn by GBC’s leader, rather than red for liberty) and protest?
According to the House of Commons Library website: “Parliament has already sat for longer than at any time in history. See this from the House of Commons Library website: “On 7 May 2019 the current parliamentary session reached a striking landmark. It became the longest session by sitting days since the English Civil War (1642-51). It was already unusual, having lasted over three different calendar years, beginning on 13 June 2017. As of Friday (10 May 2019), it has run for 298 sitting days, and 2,657 hours and 56 minutes.”
After the longest session in parliamentary history, the recess has been extended by two weeks. The number of sitting days lost will be around five and they are likely to be made up by a longer sitting in November.
MPs have has had over three years to sort out Brexit.
There was a referendum described by its architect, former Prime Minister David Cameron, as an in-out referendum. Worth listening to (click here) to remind us of the reasons given. He said: “If we vote to leave, then we will leave.”
The EU (like GBC) is an exercise in saying one thing and doing another.

Would there be any harm in allowing Parliament reasonable time to debate & vote on whatever new deal Boris Johnson comes up with (if we don’t just crach out)? The three years it’s already taken counts for nought under the new Prime Ministership.
Question – If Mr Johnson’s so confident he’s enacting the “will of the people”, why not make sure by giving Parliament the time to debate and the people the chance to vote on the terms of leaving the EU.
Answer – Cos he knows he’d lose. And badly!

Giving Parliament more time would only allow those determined to prevent the UK leaving the EU to endlessly repeat their unsupported nonsense about “crashing out” without ever reaching any conclusion thus achieving their aim.
Once again, the same old rubbish about how “the people” would vote differently now. There’s no evidence for that either, other than the constant practised cries of Momentum.

The current situation is so depressing, what is democracy about if it is not giving the people a chance to vote on the ‘new deal’ that we will be faced with.
The will of the people has been known to change, evidence being the change of government when we have a general election or when GBC changes its political complexion.
Threats and bribes are not government as I understand it. I so respect those who are doing their best for the country and putting their own careers at risk they are true public servants not a gang of bullies.
Well said Mr Carpenter.
