From James Walsh
Labour borough councillor for Stoke ward
(Council Faces Dilemma Over Anti-Terror Barriers)
This will be decided in a few weeks time and some of us on the council have yet to see the security advice or worked-through justification for the barriers.
I am not happy just waving something like this through without seeing more information or having a very good reason as to why Guildford needs barriers. As an earlier correspondent notes, terror attacks come in many guises and a “lone wolf” with a weapon will not be stopped by chunks of concrete or metal in the High Street.
The broader issue is – how far do we change the way we live, and the places we live in, to accommodate the crazy notions and possible actions of a minority of fanatics?

Cllr Walsh is correct.
Barriers would not even have stopped the pub bombings of the 1970s.
