Letter: Shouldn’t GBC’s Managing Director Be Impartial in This Debate?

From Ben Paton

GGG candidate in the forthcoming borough council election

In response to: Delay Adopting Local Plan Until After the Election, Say Opposition Councillors

What part of Mr Whiteman’s role is it to openly support one side or the other in this debate?

Isn’t he supposed to be an impartial civil servant?

What pretensions to any expertise in planning does he have?

Shouldn’t Mr Whiteman be ensuring that the council abides by its own Codes of Conduct?

Is this not still further evidence that the planning department long ago ceased to be objective regarding the housing target, the green belt, transport and sustainability?

Perhaps Mr Whiteman should have resigned and run for election if he feels so convinced of the probity and soundness of this Local Plan?

Or does Mr Whiteman just dance to any tune that the Executive plays him?
