In response to: Guildford Chantries Rotary Club’s Donation To Salvation Army’s Food Bank

I’d like to thank the Guildford Chantries Rotary club for donating this money to the Guildford Salvation Army’s foodbank; it’s very much appreciated.

Just before lockdown, I spent time with volunteers at the foodbank sorting through food donations (into product type and expiry date order) before they were put into their storage area. The shelves were full with stock estimated to last until the end of the school summer holidays; within a few weeks, they were bare due to the sheer increase in demand.

All food banks in Guildford have worked really hard to help anyone in need, especially during the Coronavirus pandemic. People are coming forward who have never sought help before which is a sign just how hard life is for some.

But people in Guildford are kind and generous. I have seen Community Facebook groups – and schools – come together to set up regular food collections which I hope will continue over the coming months.

So, if you would like to organise a food donation collection in your street do contact the Guildford Salvation Army to find out more. You may also consider making a financial donation so that they can buy the essentials. Thank you.
