Letter: There Is Never Much Dignity in Dying

From Roger Kendall

In response to: Please Come and Support Dignity in Dying

There is never much dignity in dying but allowing assisted suicide will not add dignity but rather add uncertainty, fear, impossible decisions and the continued degrading of the sanctity of human life. Something that previous generations have fought hard to bring to a modern and better society.

Passing the “Assisted Dying” Bill would be a terrible backward step with minimal savings to the NHS budget.

My own father asked me to end his life when he was in A & E after a minor stroke but I could plead that his life was protected by law.

When his medication was sorted out he returned home and enjoyed another 2-3 years of active life. He never mentioned it again.
